Sorry if this has been covered before, I couldn't find it.

I want to send an email to all Members announcing the Forum Upgrade and New Features.

Is there a way to do that from within the CP, and is there a way to make sure that all registered members get sent to, even if they have not manually chosen to receive emails?

Very easy just goto the Control panel>Member management
Search for all members.
At the bottom is actions with what to do with the list. Select EMAIL
Under that select All Members in Search
It will take you to another page with options to send a email or generate a list.

If the user has opted not to receive emails then I believe they will not get one. You will need to query the MYSQL Database to get them but if they don't want emails from you are you willing to risk offending them?

Thanks, I never did that before and was confused on how to do it.

I wouldn't want to send to someone who has specifically opted out. I at one point thought the default was that nothing was selected as a preference regarding emails. I think many members don't even look in their profile prefs after signing up, so they wouldn't get emails even if they wanted to.

I just tried sending to the list (you may be on it .. )

The default setting is to hide the option to opt out of emails Ages ago a null setting meant to include but I am really not sure today.
My email settings as I recall should all be the same over the years so I guess I will get one from you on one of my 12 or so email accounts.
PS It would be nice if you updated your profile here and add the URL to your site so people can visit and determine what version you are using to help you. And in my case I did not really know who you were until this reply. Now I do.

I got the email. And I checked my profile options and it shows a null on ADMIN emails So I never selected one of them from the early days. So that answers your question.

Is there an easy way to remove email addresses from those generated, or maybe marking them as opt-out? I'm getting a ton of failure notices.

That is why I hardly use the feature. And I was not sure if it worked for 7.4.1
I have never figured out how to avoid the problem.

You have the same problems as me dealing with
Contractors
Employees of City/County/State/Federal bodies.
People that don't re-visit and update contact info.
Then also you have firewall issues with the same people that reject the email even though the email address is legitimate.

For me I have a catchall email account. Sounds like you already have one.
So when a email is returned over and over I finally delete the user. Of course you need to check if the user has existing posts. I also check for dates of last post ETC.

Of course the more often you send something the better it gets with each message if you follow up editing members.

If someone else replies here I would love to hear from them how to fix this.
Maybe someone else will chime in.

Using it seems to be pretty time-consuming too.

It seems to be sending in batches of 25. Is that the way it does it, or is that something having to do with my host email settings?

Will it continue sending emails until it's done, or do I have to stay logged into the CP?

I believe you will need to stay logged into the CP as your computer is actually the buffer sending the batch information to the program. I think this is done not to overload your site with sending a few thousand emails at once. This is a problem with some host's too so it buffers the amount sending at one time.
