1870\'s WESTERN AMERICANA COWBOY TINTYPE PHOTO OF FRONTIERSMAN ATTACKING A BEAR
Price: US $415.00
Fantastic and original, ca1870\'s Western Americana, Half Plate Tintype Photograph of a heavily armed Cowboy / Frontiersman confronting a bear and preparing to use the butt end of his rifle as a club the snarling beast. This outstanding and unique subject, Tintype Photo measures approx. 4” by 6 1/4\" and, unfortunately, is not identified in any way.

The Image pictures the young Cowboy / Frontiersman dressed in a wide brimmed hat, fringed buckskin jacket and pants, cartridge belt and revolver. He grasps the barrel of his rifle and appears ready to bludgeon the stuffed grizzly bear he is confronting.

What exactly is going on in this Image is a mystery. It is quite obviously a staged scene in a photographer’s studio. We are unsure if the Cowboy / Frontiersman is an Actor performing a scene from a production or perhaps a performer in a Wild West Show. The scene is rather elaborate in its set up and we have not seen anything like it before. This could certainly simply be a stock set up but both the size of the Image (Half Plate Size) and the content lead us to believe that there is a story to be told here but what it is we likely will never know.

Suffice it to say that this is a wonderful, Western Americana themed, large size Tintype Image the likes of which one will likely never again encounter!!

This outstanding, Western Americana Tintype Photo is in very good to excellent condition. The Photograph exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. The is no surface crazing or surface damage although there is a single, small shallow dimple just below the crotch of the Frontiersman’s pants. Overall the Tintype is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully.

A very rare and wonderful, ca1870’s Western Americana Tintype Photograph of a heavily armed Cowboy / Buffalo Hunter / Frontiersman confronting a bear (well at least a taxidermy bear) and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!

Notes about Shipping Charges and the \"Detailed Seller Rating\" Star System:

The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 \"packing fee\" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.

We have NEVER requested response from our customers as we were taught that \"fishing for compliments\" was impolite but the new Detailed Rating System has put us in a rather tight spot. Most buyers are unaware that bases a monthly fee discount on a Seller\'s \"Star\" rating. A monthly average of \"4.6 Stars\" (in any one of the four \"Star\" categories) costs us approximately $400 in additional Fees - that\'s $400 above what we would pay if we had a \"4.8 Star\" average in all 4 \"Star\" categories!! As a consequence we hope you do not find us rude to ask that if you are happy with our items, our service, and our packing & shipping please be sure to use the \"Star\" rating system and remember that a \"5 Star\" rating is the only way we can qualify for \'s fee reduction program. ,
