Very Rare and original, 1887 Cabinet Card Photograph of Native American Lakota Sioux Indian Warrior and his wife identified on the mount as a performer with Buffalo Bill\'s Wild West.
This wonderful, Albumen Photograph measures approx. 3 7/8\" by 5 1/2\" and is mounted on its original card mount (card mount measures 4 1/2” by 6 1/2”). The photograph is a full length, standing portrait of the young husband and wife wearing traditional Lakota Sioux garb. The Warrior wears a feathered war bonnet, bone hair pipe breast plate arm and wrist bands, bead decorated leggings and beaded moccasins. His wife wears a woman’s bone hair pipe breastplate style necklace, belt with silver conchos and bead decorated moccasins. A period inscription on the back of the mount reads simply “Buffalo Bill Show”. The Cabinet Card carries the mark of the photographer – Spencer of Chicago.
This very rare wonderful, 19th century Western Americana / Wild West Show / Native American Sioux Cabinet Card Photograph is in excellent condition. The Photograph itself exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. The image is clean and crisp as is the card mount.
