A bird-decorated Stoneware Jug with HTF bird\'s beak pouring spout, 2-Gallon capacity, New York State origin, ca.1870. Impressed below the rim with a cobalt-washed maker\'s stamp: NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO. / FORT EDWARD. The manufactory was in operation roughly 1859-1885. Front features a large Bird on sprig design, artistically executed in dark, slip-trailed cobalt. Heavy shading on the wing and tail feathers provide tremendous Folk Art appeal. Salt-Glazed exterior, Albany Slip interior, tooled spout.


Condition: Chips on the outer rim near the spout, and one shallow chip on the base, as shown; otherwise Excellent with strong color. A glazed-over thumbprint on the handle and small stone pop near the bird\'s tail noted for descriptive accuracy. Displays brilliantly as-is, or restore for a complete show-stopper, if desired.
