This is really beautiful! It\'s an antique, NEVER USED835 STERLING SILVER powder compact in the shape of a hand mirror. It weighs in at 2.8 ounces or 80 grams on my postal scale!! I believe it dates back to the early 1920s but it could be earlier. The \"mirror\" portion is the powder holder and the \"handle\" holds a tube of lipstick (see photos below). The compact features a chased silver lid with a cartouche in the center, should you want to carve your initials here. The back of the compact is an excellent, reflective magnifying mirror (see second-from-last photo below). The mirror is in incredibly good condition for such an old metal container. The compact is signed 835 on both the lipstick holder and the handle (see last photo below). Overall condition is VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT!
Open the compact by just lifting up the top lid, away from you. Inside, you see an excellent mirror, very clear and reflective. The body of the compact contains an open well or compartment for holding loose face powder. However, currently there is no powder in the compact. I do not believe the well EVER held any powder, as the compact is unused. Both the original fitted pink powder pad and powder screen or filter are present; neither has ever been used.
As indicated above, the \"handle\" portion of the compact actually is a tube of push-up lipstick. You can easily pull out the lipstick tube and push up the very red lipstick. However, the lipstick is pretty much all gone now (see third-from-last photo below).
The compact and lipstick holder measure 5\" down by 2⅛\" across. As indicated above, it is in very good to excellent condition. Clasp and hinges work perfectly and all interior fittings are present. There NO dings or dents or anything else wrong with the silver metal. Which in itself is remarkable, since these antique silver contains always seem to have dents and dimples on them. This one has none!
