I have some nice antique German steins up for sale this week – this oneis an authentic antique German regimentalmilitary stein made in Germany over 100 years ago with a rare uncommonthumblift you do not see very often.

This stein is named to Friedrick Lechuer. He served in the unit listed around the topof the stein – Kgl. Bayr. 5. Inft. Regt.,, Ghhrig. Ernst Lud. Bef. 8. Comp.1909/11 Bamberg.

Reservist Lechuer probably took care of the horses, was ablacksmith or assistant, because two of the four side scenes are of horsemaintenance(see pics). The other two areof reservists celebrating coming home. The front scene is a soldier in uniform next to a blue rampant lionholding a Bavarian shield. Above that isa gold crown and In Treue Fest. There islots of hand enameled hilites on the crown and scenes. (you can feel them whenyou run your fingers over them).

The best part of this stein is the military theme lid andthe very large kneeling soldier thumblift holding a rifle to shoot it. This is a rare uncommon thumblift that you donot see very often.

The bottom of the stein has a lithophane that is perfectlyintact. This stein is 1/2L in size andis about 10 ½” high.

The stein body itself has no chips, cracks or repairs, onlythe bottom side base band paint has a tiny bit of wear(not much at all butwanted to point it out, see the pics). Thepewter strap on the stein was cut and then a wire wrapped around it to secureit. Also, the hinge has screwsinserted. It all works fine - my guessis, during the war, metal was in short supply and many Germans gave what theycould to the war effort. Someone mayhave taken this off and thought better of it and put it back on. This is fortunate because you do not see thistype of thumblift very often. A pewtersmithcould fix the strap and hinge, but I’m going to leave that to the nextowner. Don’t miss out on thisopportunity for a most unusual stein! Please see all the photos and let me know if you have any questions.
