UP FOR sale IS A DUCTH ANTIQUE SALT GLAZED STONEWARE GINGER BEER BOTTLE WITH A COBALT BLUE HANDPAINTED SLIPTRAILED \"R\" AND IMPRESSED \"D.W. DE FREEST.\"  THIS SALT GLAZED GINGER BEER BOTTLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH JUST A COUPLE VERY SMALL CHIPS ON THE VERY TOP OF THE LIP, A SMALL DING ON THE OUTER RIM OF THE BASE, AND HAS NORMAL CASE WEAR.  THIS COBALT BLUE PAINTED GINGER BEER IS FROM CIRCA 1860.  VERY NICE EXAMPLE OF A GINGER BEER WITH A DRIPPY CRUDE LOOKING LIP.  THIS STONEWARE POTTERY STANDS 10 3/4\'\' TALL AND IS VERY HEAVY.  SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PIECE FOR ANY COLLECTION OR JUST FOR DECORATION.  THIS COBALT BLUE HAND PAINTED GINGER BEER WILL BE PACKAGED WITH CARE AND SHIPPED PROMPTLY.  NO INTERNATIONAL buyers PLEASE.

A LITTLE HISTORY BEHIND THIS PIECE:DEFREESTVILLE, INITIALLY called Blooming Grove until around 1830 when it was changed due to confusion with another Blooming Grove in Orange County, New York, it was named Defreestville for David M. De Freest and family who owned a tavern there. Defreestville and Wynantskill continue to be important hamlets in the town. Corporal Daniel W. DeFreest Enlisted on August 12, 1862 at Troy, NY as a Private. He was 23 years old at enlistment. On August 27, 1862 he mustered into \"H\" Co. NY 125th. Infantry. On September 3, 1863 he transferred into Veterans Reserve Corps. He was listed as POW 9/15/1862 Harper’s Ferry, Va. Paroled 9/16/1862. Son of Ezra DeFreest and Agnes Peck. He married Gertrude Van Vranken. b 1838 d 11/27/1913.
