Antique Stoneware: 2G Ovoid Jug w/ Cobalt, Norton & Fenton, Bennington VT, c1846
Price: US $1125.00

An outstanding American Stoneware Jug, 2 Gallon capacity, New England origin, ca.1845-1847. Highly-Ovoid, Salt-Glazed form with tooled spout and applied, reeded strap handle. The shoulder impressed with a very crisp, cobalt-washed stamp reading: NORTON & FENTON /  BENNINGTON VT, with a capacity mark just below. This was a short-lived partnership between Julius Norton and Christopher Fenton. Wares produced during this brief, two-year period are highly sought after. See Internet for further information on the firm. Front features a large and impressive brushed Triple Floral decoration in the boldest of Cobalt.

Condition: Very Good to Excellent overall, in essentially as-made condition. Inherent glaze and firing imperfections noted. Light surface soiling and a stone pop near the base (see close-up, photo #10). No repaired damage or restoration work. A wonderful early form with tremendous Folk Art appeal; highly-appropriate for the advanced collector of American Stoneware. This Bennington Ovoid will not disappoint! See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. This is a solid well-potted vessel, measuring approximately 9-3/4\"W x 13\"H with a base diameter of 5-1/4\"; 7.8 lbs.
