A 2-Gallon Stoneware Crock with \"Pecking Chicken\" decoration, New York State origin, ca.1875. Straight-sided cylindrical form with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles. Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior. Front features a large Slip-Trailed Cobalt design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn on a stylized ground. Very bold and well-executed with tremendous Folk Art appeal. Every stoneware collection should have at least one NY Chicken Crock.


Condition: Surface imperfections, including shallow chips and hairlines on the upper rim, and glaze flakes on the lower right side, as shown; otherwise Very Good. A stack mark (lower left), excess salt glaze (left side and rear), and light mineral/water staining (interior) noted for descriptive accuracy. Displays quite well; highly-appropriate for any Country or Primitive setting. See photos for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description. Measures 10\"W x 9-1/2\"H overall with a base diameter of 9-3/4\". The inner and outer rim diameters are 8-1/4 and 9-3/4\", respectively; 9.2 lbs.
