Antique Stoneware: Primitive Slip Decorated PA Redware Plate, 8.25\", ca.1840, NR
Price: US $229.13

An early Slip-Decorated Plate or Dish, 8-1/4\" diameter, Pennsylvania origin, ca.1840. Slab-molded, concave form with coggled rim. The interior is decorated with three bands of wavy Yellow Slip over a vibrant, pumpkin-orange ground. The reverse side is unglazed.

Condition: Typical utilitarian wear on the interior and rim, including areas of glaze loss and shallow perimeter chips, as shown; otherwise in Very Good. Fine crazing on the inner surface noted for descriptive accuracy. The reverse side has discoloration, stains, etc. consistent with age, use and handling. There is a small inscribed marking on the base; either a triangular symbol or letter A? (see close-up, photo #11). It appears post-production and likely just a bit of 19thC. \"graffiti\", for lack of a better term. No cracks, repaired damage or restoration work. See photos for complete details and please consider them as part of the description. Measures 8-1/4\"W x 1-1/4\"D overall.
