ART DECO STERLING SILVER Powder & Rouge Compact with Enamel and Cloisonne Work
Price: US $69.57

This is really beautiful! It\'s a round ART DECO all STERLING SILVER 925 powder and rouge compact, probably from the late 1920s or so. It weighs in at 38 grams on my postal scale. The compact has an attached linkedsilverchain on top, which probably had a finger ring attached to the end at one time. You could easily attach a finger ring to the chain, if you are so inclined.

The compact features a green enameled lid with a cameo image of a classical sterling silver vase of flowers in the center. The vase is done in cloisonne and is sitting on top of a black enameled background. Also, notice in the photos included with this listing that the edge or perimeter of the compact also contains some fine cloisonne enameling work, with alternating sterling silver bows and triangles on the same black background.

The underside of the compact has a very fine silver engine-turned geometric design (see last two photos included with this listing). The compact is not signed, but it tests as sterling silver. The enameling is very indicative of the fine cloisonne work you see on many Austrian and Italian compacts of the period.

The compact measures 2¼\" in diameter. Pull it open to see a very good metal mirror on the other side of the lid. This mirror is double-sided and also is a lid. Pull it open, from left to right, to see a removeable insert of almost full dark pink powder rouge underneath. The body of the compact contains an open well with a fitted round disk. The disk has holes in it at regular intervals and is removable, which enables you to load face powder underneath. The compact also comes with a white unused powder pad, but it is not original to the compact. However, it does fit the space very well.

Overall condition is VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT. All the green enamel is present with NO damage or chips or anything. You see some minimal scratches and usage marks on the inside, but not all that many (remember, this compact is 80+ years old). I doubt this compact was used very much. Even the underside is in GREAT condition1
