Beautiful Georgian George III Garnet Gold Ring - ca. C 1780
Price: GB $1218.95

Up for sale is this rare Georgian gold ring featuring 5 flat cut foiled back garnets in rub-over gold closed setting with the most intricate beautifully engraved design to the shoulders. The garnets are approx 0.5-0.6cm each in diameter. The face of the ring measures approx 2.9cm wide.
The ring is not hallmarked which is authentic for its age and kind.It does bear an inscription on the closed back which reads:E.E. Paxton
Overall the ring is in lovely condition in line with its age and can be worn immediately. The shank is a little bit out of shape and shows signs of wear. It looks to me that it has been resized in the past. It can easily be resized again. At one point during its life, the smallest outer garnet must have been replaced (please refer to the photos). For this purpose the closed back setting has been cut open. Luckily, this repair is not visible when the ring is worn. However, on very close inspection it is noticeable that the little garnet is a replacement as it has a different cut to the other stones. This could easily be rectified by having this garnet exchanged with a more matching one. This would be a very easy task for any good jeweller. But if you are like my wife and you find it is part of its fascinating history you just leave it as it is and enjoy it straight away, maybe thinking of the craftsman who must have spent many many hours engraving those gorgeous shoulders by candlelight.Ring size:UK = P1/2Europe = 57 diameter 18.25USA = 8I am currently selling a few antique jewellery items. Please feel free to browse my other sales as well.
