Very rare and beautiful, ca1905 Philadelphia Tavern / Louis Bergdoll Brewing Company (also known as the City Park Brewery), Tin Lithographed, Vienna Art Plate / Advertising Tray featuring a fully topless and beautiful "Pretty Girl" type image of a beautiful young woman in the style of Angelo Asti - this is the same image used on the exceptionally rare "Topless Girl" Coca-Cola Tray.
This fantastic and exceptionally rare, chromolithograph on tin Art Plate / Advertising Tray measures approx. 10" in diameter. It pictures the beautiful young woman entirely nude from the waist up and sitting demurely with her hands folded on her knees. She stares dreamily to the right with her flowing auburn hair draped seductively behind her right shoulder fully exposing her breasts. This image is well known to advanced collectors as the same image used on the Coca-Cola Topless Tray which sells in the $5,000 to $12,000 range depending on condition. The rim of the Tray features an elaborate, Victorian design with floral panels .
The back side of the Tray features advertising text that reads "Heilich's / 1319 Arch St., Opp. Elk's Home / Philadelphia" and "The Louis Bergdoll Brewing Co's Beer Exclusively". The Louis Bergdoll Brewing Co's was also known as the City Park Brewery and was located in North Philadelphia. Heilich's was a well known Philadelphia Saloon / Bar. There is also a trade mark on the reverse that reads "Vienna Art Plates / Pat. Feb. 21st, 1905" with text below that reads "The H. D. Beach Co., Coshocton, Ohio.". These wonderful, tin lithograph "Vienna Art Plates" were manufactured by The H. D. Beach Co. and are often found without advertising. Those with Brewery Advertising are among the rarest and most highly sought after examples.
The image of the beautiful, young woman is not signed by the artist but is executed in the "Pretty Girl" genera introduced by Artist Angelo Asti. Asti burst upon the American Advertising Art scene in 1904 with his first Art Nouveau style image of a beautiful, buxom girl titled He originated what is called the girl style of Advertising Art - "Pretty girl" art is a term used to refer to painting of a glamour art nature that was done by mainstream illustrators. It found its audience among popular magazines like The Saturday Evening Post and Cosmopolitan and in the world of advertising.

From 1856 until Charles Psotta's death in 1876, the firm was known as Bergdoll and Psotta. In 1856 the firm built new quarters on 28th and 29th Streets near Fairmount Park and the Schuylkill River. In 1881 the firm was incorporated as City Park Brewery. Louis Bergdoff died in 1894, but the firm continued to operate as a brewery until Prohibition in 1920, and then for a single year after the repeal of Prohibition, in 1934.
