Listed this week is one of our Finest and Largest Asian art estate sales to date. The items listed are mainly from the estate of Henrietta Anthony of Quebec. Ms. Anthony owned one of the most prominent antique galleries in Montreal that she ran from the age of 18 to 80, for 62 years. Anthony also owned a large and very successful vineyard in the hills of southern Quebec. Ms. Anthony had a passion for Chinese art and was well known in the area for being a top dealer and knowledgeable appraiser. The items listed are from her private collection of choice and unique examples she kept over the years. I am told most of the items were purchased 30-50 years ago mainly in London and New York. Ms. Anthony was also good friends with Alex Gurie of the famed Gurie Gallery of Montreal that specialized in Important Asian works of art. During the mid 1900s Gurie travelled to Asia on many buying trips acquiring a vast amount of highly important Asian works of art with a main interest in Ming and pre Ming Chinese arts. I am told Ms Anthony purchased a large number of items from him during the 1950-60s. I believe this is a rare opportunity to acquire some very fine and authentic fresh to market Chinese art examples. You rarely see estate collections of this size and quality come up for sale, a sale not to be missed!

Up for sale is a Very Rare c1770 Chinese Imperial Qianlong Gold Gilt Bronze Amitayus Buddha Figure. This figure is fully guaranteed to be an authentic Qianlong imperial example. This Buddha is finely detailed and richly gold gilt throughout. The figure is finely inscribed with a nine-character Qianlong imperial mark that I believe dates the figure to the year 1770. Throughout the 1760-1770s period Emperor Qianlong ordered the making of such examples for imperial palace and temple use. The figure displays very nicely measuring 4 1/2 inches wide, by 3 1/2 inches deep, and sits 7 1/2 inches tall. As you can see in the back side there are two slots and I believe this Buddha would have originally has a flaming back ring that is no longer present. The figures one lower ear decoration also has a small old repair, and I believe the figure may have originally held something it in hands. For the figures extreme rarity I believe it should still be a very desirable find and is something that very rarely comes up for sale outside a major sale house, mostly being offered without reserve!
