Up for sale with is an extraordinary rare c1755 Chelsea soft-paste porcelain sunflower design tureen with its original undertray. This tureen and tray are very rare and authentic examples that were originally purchased at Sotheby’s. As you can see the tureen has original Sotheby’s labels and I have included the sale result from when purchased. This is not a similar set, this is the actual tureen and tray that Sotheby’s sold. I am told that very few examples in this sunflower design were ever made, with extremely few still in existence today. I am told this is one of the rarest and most highly-sought after Chelsea designs that can be found. Sotheby’s has sold a couple other very similar examples for around the same or higher prices so I believe the value of this set is consistently substantial from the results.

The tureen and tray are truly brilliant examples. The crisp molded designs along with the amazing vibrant enamel colors are breathtaking. They are ingenious and boldly designed period examples. As you can see the tray and tureen flower tips have chips that could be restored if desired. I personally like such examples in their original unaltered true period state, as I am sure many connoisseur collectors would agree. Overall for their very old age of c1755 the tureen and tray are in substantially good and intact condition with no large breaks, no cracks, and no repairs. I have closely inspected the pieces under UV black light that reveals absolutely no damage or repairs of any kind.

The tray measures 9 inches wide, and the tureen measures 5 inches wide. I believe it may be some time before you see other period examples like this, especiallywith this Sotheby’s provenance up for sale. As my sales have run for well over a decade online this exceptionally rare set is being sold with Absolutely . I am told one could count on your hands how many complete sets like this are known to exist, so I believe it may be a very long time before such an opportunity arises again. This c1755 Chelsea sunflower tureen and tray are truly brilliant Museum quality investment-grade examples.
