Original Austrian Commemorative Medal of World War 1. Awarded \"with helmet and swords\" to soldiers and other combattants or \"without helmet and swords\" to all other war participants or to the nearest relative of a soldier KIA. This medal was instituted on 26 May 1929 by the Regent, Admiral Horthy. The obverse shows the weapon shield of Hungary surmounted by a crown and, if so awarded, with swords underneath the shield. The reverse bears the text \"PRO DEO ET PATRIA / 1914-1918\" (for God and Fatherland 1914-1918) and, if so awarded, with a WWI helmet over the dates. In case of the award \"without helmet and swords\", the ribbon is white with green-red-white side stripes.
SIGNUM LAVDIS MEDAL -Circular gilt bronze medal with crown suspension; the face with the head of Emperor Franz Joseph I facing right and circumscribed ‘FRANCISCUS IOS. I. D. G. IMP. AUST. REX BOH. ETC. ET REX APOST. HUNG.’(Franz Joseph I, by the grace of God Emperor of Austria, King of Bohemia etc. Apostolic King of Hungary); the reverse inscribed ‘SIGNVM LAVDIS’(sign of praise) encircled with a wreath of laurel and oak; on original ribbon; in original fitted embossed case of issue by Rothe & Neffe, Vienna. The medal, usually known as the ‘Signum Laudis’ medal after the inscription on the reverse, was instituted on 12 March 1890 and intended for lower ranks of the military for outstanding acts worthy of the sovereign’s praise and recognition
War Service Medal 1873. Obverse: The bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I facing right wearing a laurel wreath. The legend \'FRANZ JOSEPH I.KAISER V.ÖSTERREICH KÖNIG V.BÖHMEN ETC.APOST. KÖNIG V.UNGARN\', around the circumference. Reverse: \'2 December 1873\' on three lines within a laurel and oak leaf wreath tied at the base by a ribbon. The medal is fitted with a loose ring suspender and a piece of 40 mm wide gold ribbon, that has black stripes near the edges and black horizontal stripes down the centre, folded in a triangular shapeOn his 25th Jubilee, in December 1873, Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria instituted the \'Kriegsmedaille\' (War Medal). The medal shows on the obverse the Emperor\'s head surrounded by a laurel wreath and on the reverse the date \'2.December 1873\' (those showing the spelling Dezember where produced after 1900). It was suspended from a ribbon in the Habsburg colors of black and yellow. The medal was awarded to military personnel who had taken part in a least one action since 1848. Later the award of the medal was extended to military personnel who had taken part campaigns after 1873, until the Kaiser\'s death in November 1916
The Karl Troop Cross (German: Karl-Truppenkreuz) was instituted on 13 December 1916 by Emperor Karl I of Austria-Hungary. The cross was awarded until the end of the First World War to soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Army , regardless of rank, who had been with a combatant unit for at least twelve weeks and who had actually served at the front. It is in the form of a Maltese Cross (cross pattee) with the arms joined by garlands of laurel leaves. The face reads \"Grati Princeps et Patria\" and \"Carolus Imp et Rex\" whilst the reverse reads \"vitam et sanguinem\" and the date of institution, MDCCCCXVI, (1916) below the crowns of Austria and Hungary.
