Lady Owners- The vast majority of now well over10000 belts sold to us came from ladies who wanted rid and indeed as one of ourcustomers has pointed out nearly all primary teachers were women. We have lots of male ex-teachers who havetelephoned for estimates still holding on to belts either for posterity orhoping values will increase. With loads of Ms Dicks spongy replicas now beingrecycled they may have missed the boat - fortunately we did not.
Replicas - It’sdifficult to be sure from photos as many have a real stamp but on inspection ofthe belts the leather is obvious as \'new\' even where they have been \'doctored\'by dye, scores, scratches and names written on them etc. The stamps are oftentoo deep and clear and most are in the nearly 23inch(metric) length although wehave seen some copies in 24inch version – only a few so far in 21inch length -good 21s are mostly in the older dense leather anyway and the replicas so fardon\'t crack on the surface when flexed or folded. Lots of customers now emailfor our opinion pre-offerding as many buying fakes have not had refunds. The dropin values due to this and the economy might limit what comes on the internetsales but beware these replica \'Lochgelly belts\' are now finding their wayinto established antique and general sales up and down the country. Wehave now had 11 good long term clients sell us back their entire collectionswhich will be saleed on following the sales of our recent privatepurchases unless previously traded.
