Here is an EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF A VINTAGE HOPI HILILI or WITCH KACHINA, IN GREAT CONDITION FOR AGE, A WELL CARVED / PAINTED NATIVE AMERICAN COTTONWOOD CARVING. A nice looking, collectible, old and authentic Hopi Katsina Hopi Doll, a made from solid Cottonwood. This Kachina was made by an expert HOPI maker (OB or CB on bottom of foot).

This is a fine looking and uncommon Kachina, with a great workmanship - a nice paint job and expert, detailed carving. He is made from solid Cottonwood Tree Wood standing, at about 13\" tall, and 6 1/2\" wide at fists. There is some very minor wear to paint / feathers, otherwise no notable damage or breaks/loss to body. This Kachina, as you can see from the pics, displays extremely well and is a handsome and collectible piece of Native America.

The body is carved from a single piece of the traditional Cottonwood - a tree that grows in washes and canyons where water is more AN OLDER and FINE LOOKING HILILI or (Anti) Witch Kachina. This Hopi form of the POWAK\'CHINA is said to have originated from Acoma or Laguna, migrated to Zuni and then Hopi. He is known now as Heleleka in the Eastern Pueblos. He is seen now as a Guard at Powamu and also appears in the Kiva or Plaza Dances. This Kachina is still feared by some, but it is used to protect against carved and painted by a master Hopi Kachina carver/maker - Hopituh Shimunuh!!!
