Here is a nice example of an older (c1965) CLASSIC HANIA or BEAR KACHINA, A Hunter Kachina,which is in Excellent Condition for age - see pics! This Kachina was made by an expert HOPI maker - AY (on bottom of foot). This is a very collectible and older Kachina!
This is a fine looking Kachina, with a quality paint job and expert carving. He is made from solid Cottonwood Tree Wood, standing about 9\" tall, and about 3 1/2\" wide at fists. There is some wear as expected from age/use(wear/paint/feather loss, bow is missing string, and rattle gone from other end but colored yarn strings from base of rattle still there), not cracks or breaks and in ExcellentConditionoverall for age - he displays very well as is! This guy is a traditional Hopi Kachina!
The body is carved from a single piece of the traditional Cottonwood - a tree that grows in washes and canyons where water is more MAHK OR HUNTER KACHINA, THE BEAR, IS KNOWN FOR ITS STRENGTH AND PROWESS. HE IS A PRAYER FOR STRENGTH WHEN ON THE HUNT AND FEARSOMENESS AS A WARRIOR. carved and painted by a master Hopi Kachina carver/maker !!!!
