Here is a nice example of an older (c1945) CLASSIC HOPI PONG / MOUNTAIN SHEEP KACHINA,which is in EXCELLENT condition for age - see pics! This Kachina was made by an expert HOPI maker - \"Holatsi (u)\" on bottom of foot. This is a collectible, RARE and older Kachina!

This is a fine looking Kachina, with a quality paint job and expert carving. He is made from solid Cottonwood Tree Wood, standing about 9\" tall, and about 3 1/2\" wide at fists. There is some very minor wear as expected from age/use(minor wear/paint/feather loss, a hairline crack in one horn)- yet in ExcellentConditionoverall for age, and he displays very well as is! This guy is a traditional Wall Hanger but will stand on one as well.

The body is carved from a single piece of the traditional Cottonwood - a tree that grows in washes and canyons where water is more HERE IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF AN EARLIER (PRE-1950) MOUNTAIN SHEEP OR PONG KACHINA FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION (see last pic). THE MOUNTAIN SHEEP KACHINA APPEARS IN THE LINE DANCES OR IN THE MIXED DANCES OCCASIONALLY. HE IS A PRAYER FOR RAIN AND HELPS MAKE THE GRASSES GROW, HE HAS MEDICINAL USES AS WELL (HELPS CURE SPASMS AND NERVE AILMENTS). HE IS A POPKOT OR ANIMAL KACHINA AND A FINE EXAMPLE. CARVED BY HOLATSI carved and painted by a master Hopi Kachina carver/maker!!!!
