Here is a nice example of an older (c1965) CLASSIC HOPI TUHAVI OR PARALYZED KACHINA,which is in EXCELLENT condition for age - see pics! This Kachina was made by an expert HOPI maker and is attributed to Elman Lamson of Second Mesa\". This is a collectible, RARE and older Kachina!

This is a fine looking Kachina, with a quality paint job and expert carving. He is made from solid Cottonwood Tree Wood and BIG, standing about 13\" tall, and about 8\" wide at fists. There is some very minor wear as expected from age/use(minor wear/paint/feather loss, a hairline crack in one shoulder)- yet in ExcellentConditionoverall for age, and he displays very well as is! This guy is a traditional Wall Hanger.

The body is carved from a single piece of the traditional Cottonwood - a tree that grows in washes and canyons where water is more HERE IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF A WELL MADE AND FINE LOOKING PARALYZED KACHINA (TUHAVI). THIS KACHINA PAIRS WITH A BLIND KOYEMSI AND THEY DEPICT A FOLK TALE ABOUT COOPERATION. THE TWO WERE LEFT BEHIND IN A VILLAGE AFTER AN ATTACK DURING THE PUEBLO REVOLTS AGAINST THE SPANIARDS. THE TWO COMBINED THEIR ABILITIES TO SURVIVE, THE BLIND GUY CARRIED THE CRIPPLED GUY OR TUHAVI. THEY EVADED THE INVADERS AND WERE ABLE TO FIND FOOD/WATER. THE TIUHAVI IS THE ONLY KACHINA WITH IT\'S HORNS TURNED DOWNWARD. A TUHAVI THIS OLD AND OF THIS QUALITY IS HARD TO carved and painted by a master Hopi Kachina carver/maker EL!!!!
