custom instrument bearing the label of A. Moorhead, Boston.
This is aninteresting, one-of-a-kind, handmade fiddle bearing
a hand-written label. It is madeof nice, unusual American
cedar and tone spruce.The sound is rich andvery
resonant. I was impressed by the tone and power!

ABOUT THE SOUND SAMPLE:
This is a video clip of the actual violin being sold in this sale
and was shot on my inexpensive Casio digital camera in
video mode. There is absolutely no enhancement of the
sound whatsoever...no expensive, special microphones,
no computer alteration, no studio effects.Theplayer

A Rare, Beautiful Old Violin with
a Robust, Resonant Sound.

Nice old, handmade American fiddles like this are becoming

BostonLABEL is in ink, an old, hand-written label that appears early.
It reads: A. Moorehead, Boston (as best as I can make it out).

MEASUREMENTS:

FULL SIZE ~ 4/4 VIOLIN
Overall length is 23-1/4\" long.
Body measures 14-1/8\" long.
Lower bout is 7-3/8\" wide;
Upper bout is 6\" wide.

As usual, I\'ve posted a sound sample to sharethe beautiful,
warm tone of this violin with you.This violin is the kind of
sound that we,as violinists, searchfor but rarely find.The
finish is not as sophisticatedas a European instrument,
butthis violin producesa testament to the violin-maker!I believe this violin belongs in the hands of professional
or advanced violinist ~ Fiddle...or a serious collector who
wants to add a nice American instrument to their collection. INCLUDES ORIGINAL CASE and a BOW

CONDITION REPORT:

This violin is in nice, vintage condition. Its many decades old and
shows just the minor signs of wear from a half a century of play.
There are no sound post cracks, no cracks or splits to the scroll
or neck, and no open seams. Aside from a very short, repaired
age crack to the bottom front plate, about 1/2 long, there are no
other cracksor repairs at all. It hasonly the minor dings, scratches
and wear to the varnish that you\'dexpectin a violin from this
era. Early American violins are not as sophisticatedas a typical
Europeaninstrument, but this violin producesa wonderfullyrich,
powerful, clear sound...a testament to the violin-maker!Like any vintage violinitmight benefit from a fresh
set of strings; and a setup, etc.to your taste. Its
reallygorgeous with a beautiful sound.

its old case and a useable bow.I have included many photos; they are part of the description

which may require further maintenance and is sold
as is, as show. It is a rare, old instrument.
