Sweet spot in Synology's current line up (as of 2021).
The DS1821+ has a fast cpu and great expansion options. The AMD V1500b is a far faster CPU than the previous generation of Intel processor that Synology used. The DS1821+ can be expanded to use 10Gbe network connection, but this cost extra. Also Synology's price for RAM is obscene. BTRFS means that you can start with just a few drives and grow the storage as your needs grow without starting from scratch.The DS1821+ has a fast cpu and great expansion options. Great little NAS
Bought to replace an old ReadyNAS NV+. This unit is much faster, quieter, and of course holds more drives and RAM. I really like the software, too.
