DESCRIPTION Fort Knox Antiquities is very pleased to offer this Rare Native American, Anasazi, Dogoszhi, Tusayan Black-on-Red Large Storage Olla. Ex-Sotheby’s 1000 – 1300 AD. This type is often classified as Tsegi Orange-Ware. This very large storage olla is completely slipped in red paint with painted hatching filled geometrics very similar to Kayenta black on white pieces. This vessel was once in the collection of “The Superstition Mountain Historical Society” and was displayed in the museum near the Superstition Mountains. It was in the 1960’s purchased from Sotheby’s, then Parke-Bernet sales. The large olla remains in as found condition, completely free of any breaks, restoration or repair. A beautiful example of this rare type. All pieces are authentic as stated. The olla measures 7.5 inches tall and 9.0 inches in diameter.
Buyers should use caution in buying artifacts. Recently many stone “Hohokam” replicas have found their way onto the market. Not only are these illegal to possess as forgeries but they are also not authentic. Know what you are buying.
