This is a large vintage, very fine hand-carved shell cameo brooch or pendant, set in a beautiful filigree 900 sterling silver setting. I believe the brooch is European, as I do not recognize the signature (see last photo with this setting). It has a small decorative flexible filigree silver ring at the top of the underside, should you want to thread a silver chain through and wear this as a necklace. The cameo itself is channel-set high into a shallow silver filigree bezel and then mounted onto a wonderful filigree frame with miniature silver coins all around. Featured is the right-facing profile of a beautiful young woman with very elaborately styled hair and wearing graduated pearl necklace. Also, you see a petaled flower at her right shoulder.
The brooch is relatively large - measures nearly 2\" long (NOT counting the little flexible sterling silver ring at the top) by about 1⅝\" across. It\'s signed 15CE 900 on a small silver plaque on the underside. And also, it\'s hand-signed by the artist who created it, right on the underside of the cameo (see second-from-last photo included in this listing). It is just beautiful.
The hand-carving on this is superb! In fact, this is the type of carving you often see with 14 karat and 18 karat gold settings. Overall condition is perfect!
NOTE:The photos with an orange background were taken outdoors in diffused sunlight. The photos with the lace background were taken indoors in natural indirect sunlight, as it comes through my second story office window.
