DESCRIPTION Fort Knox Antiquities is very pleased to offer this large Native American, Snow Flake Black-on-White Pitcher, Mogollon 1100 AD - 1250 AD, often called Anasazi. This boldly painted black on white pitcher is very well painted bold interlocking designs on the bulbous body. The tall neck has interlocking “Parrot” designs bands circling the vessel. The intact handle is made of four coils fused together and then painted with diagonal hash marks. There are also several randomly painted black marks on the vessel towards the bottom. A beautiful piece in excellent condition. Provenance:  Originally acquired Sotheby’s New York City in the 1960’s, then called Parke-Benet sales.  The pitcher remains in as found condition, completely intact with no repairs and no restoration. Four intentionally chipped “Killed” directional chips at rim. These chips are intentional impacts to “Kill” the vessel in the four directions. The pitcher has not been cleaned and still retains some of the sediment stains from recovery. I can assist you in having the piece cleaned at additional cost from our restorer if desired. This will remove the staining and likely reduce or completely remove the yellowing of the vessel. Of interest, the designation of Snow Flake is not a reference to frozen water that falls from the sky. Its name comes from the area in Norther Arizona where it was first described. The nearby town was founder by Mormon settlers Snow and Flake. All pieces guaranteed as stated. The pitcher measures 5.25 inches tall and 5.0 inches in diameter.
