This most unusual German porcelain and pewter character lidded 0.5 liter beer stein was found at an estate sale in Erie, Colorado last weekend. Some research has revealed that L.A.W. is the abbreviation for League of American Wheelman, and the stein features the front wheel of a vintage high-wheeler bicycle on the sides and the small back wheel on the handle. It dates in the late 1800\'s.

A humorous lithophane on the inside bottom (see photo) depicts a high wheel rider crashing into a lady in front of an audience of young boys.

It is clearly marked \"Made in Germany Musterschutz\" which means \"Patented\" on the bottom and the actual manufacturer of this stein was Schierholz & Sohn. The L.A.W. icon again appears on the raised medallion on top of the pewter lid.

The stein measures 3-3/8\" diameter at the base, 6¾\" high to the top of the medallion and about 5½\" wide from the front of the stein to the farthest edge of the handle.

The stein appears to be in perfect condition with no cracks, no chips, no repairs that I could see.
