This sale: A beautifully detailed dollfrom Meiji era Japan. Samurai with spear on horseback. The paper attached to the original case shows that the artist was Iwase Keizan, a very famous doll maker. The red stamp at the top shows this was from an exhibition held in Meiji 10 [1877]. Despite its beauty, there are spots of damage: the horse\'s hooves, around the horse\'s mouth, some fraying of the fringe, some cloth wear etc. That said, most of the piece is great. The horse stands upon a black urushistand, and this has some wear too. The large kiri wood case is included, but the lid is a bit damaged. (Allpieces are present, though.)
The photos do not reveal how wonderful this piece is. Superb detail on thearmor, the clothdesigns, the hair, etc. Really fantastic piece.
Some measurements: from the horse head to tail, about 26 cm.from the horse hooves to samurai\'s head, about 28 cm.Theblack base is about 33 cm long and 14 cm wide.
