Fresh from a recent estate sale, comes a rare form, valued quite highly by collectors. This large one liter castle turret lidded stein is a wonderful design, well executed and decorated. It is 13\" tall (to tip of the lid) and 4 1/2\" at the widest diameter-the base. The top at the rim is 3 3/4\" across. The base is properly impressed with the V & B marks including the design number 2765. The side is fully signed H. Schlitt and marked 1L. It comes with a Knight thumb lift and the arm of a Knight for a handle.
Condition issues are: there is a very small glaze nick near the jester--see photos--and there is a hairline, possibly firing crack on the bottom running near the edge--see photos. The line appears filled with glaze most of its length, but with some glaze loss at one end. This hairline appears limited to the bottom foot and does not extend upward into the vessel. There is some staining to the interior near the rim, typical of ceramic drinking steins. There is a circular glaze miss at the top of the turret-this shows as a white line around the top in the photos. As a precaution I tested the entire stein for repairs using a serious amount of acetone--nothing to report.
