An American Stoneware Jug with folky Cobalt Bird decoration, 2-Gallon capacity, Upstate New York origin, ca.1860. Impressed on the shoulder with a cobalt-washed stamp that reads: WHITES UTICA with a capacity mark below. See Internet for further information on this well-respected, family-owned firm.


Description: A well-potted, cylindrical form with eased shoulder and applied lug handle. Front features a White\'s signature \"Running Bird\" in bold, Slip-Trailed Cobalt. Desirable and quite charming with tremendous Folk Art appeal. Gray, Salt-Glazed exterior; Albany Slip interior.


Condition: Very Good to Excellent with strong color and highly sought-after decoration. Inherent glaze and firing imperfections in-the-making (stack marks, scars, etc.) noted for descriptive accuracy. Expected wear on base and upper rim, as shown.
