Here is an original Model 1881 U.S. Army dress helmet. Made of dark pressed felt with black leather edge trim. Black leather band around the outside. Leather sweatband intact inside. Has the full contract stamp in it in red ink: W.H. Horstmann Contract March 4th 1899. Brass artillery side buttons. Exhibits the correct brass spike and base andbrass enlistedmans federal eagle Artilleryplate . When I recieved the helmet the plate was hanging by one loop. I found a couple replacements and reattached them to the plate with epoxy. It displays well and matches the patina of the rest of the brass pieces sodid not replace it.
