Additional Markings:The right ricasso is marked \"US\". The opposing side is marked \"1900\".
Size: The blade is approximately 11-5/8\" long, with an overall length of approximately 16-1/4\".
Description: This is a Spanish-American War era, 1899 marked Krag Jorgensen bayonet, with sharp markings and beautifully grained wood grip panels. The scabbard
Condition: The blade has wire wheel marks, scuffs and rough polishing on both sides; there are grind and wheel marks on the pommel, crossguard fixtures and tang. There are freckles of brown patina, areas of surface etching and light pin prick erosion on all metal surfaces, more so on the tang and crossguard. The wood panels have excellent lines but there are gouge marks present, including deep impact marks on the belly of the panels. The fullers still have sharp definition and the markings are sharp. There are drag lines from being inserted and removed from the scabbard.
The scabbard has similar grind marks that look recent. There is loss of finish but for an over-100 year old item, such can be expected, please see our photographs. The scabbard has oxidation and a forming brown patina throughout.
The bayonet lug lock functions correctly with ample spring.
