Price: HR $225.27
This is very rare Ottoman empire military medal.
It is an original! The Medal was instituted in 1853
to award successful combatants in
the Danube Campaign early in the
Crimean War against Russia. It was occasionally awarded later in 19th
century, for other campaigns where no
specific medal was struck.Av. Moon and star as symbols of Islam.
Sultan Abdul Mejid I, and year 1270AH.surrounded with military symbols (flags, wreath...)Rv. six-pointed star in the center of a
twelve-pointed star, above a banner with
a Turkish inscription, ornament belowIt is made of silver. It shows some wear.
It has no ribbon, but this jewerly part is
original.
Medal was acquired in Bosnia, witch was
part of Ottoman empire untill 1878.
My guess is that ribbon was not suitable
for traditional folk costume. It is often
completely covered with silver, so skilled
local goldsmith has made this modification
somewhere between 1853-1878.
