This sale is for a rarely seen 4/4 violin by Josef Vokoun. Vokoun had a relatively short career.His violins are, in many respects, similar to the work of Jan Kulik. It\'s doubtful that you will seeanother violin by this maker on any time soon.
Description: The violin measures 23\" long, 14 1/16\" back, 6 1/2\" upper bouts, 8 1/4\" lower bouts.Nicely flamed back (2 piece) and ribs. Back is cleated. Varnish typical for a violin of this periodand origin - in goodcondition. Nicely fit corner blocks and lining.
Issues: There is a repaired crack (cleated) on the treble side (see photos) andit appears thereare twobeginning cracks on the lower base side. There are no cracks in theareas of the basebar orthe sound post. Two small pieces of the edging are missing - adjacenttothe neck (seephotos).The neck block has come unglued and the fingerboard has fallen against thebody.Nodamage to the neck, button, or back. Will need a neck reset. Scroll and tuners are OK.Soundpost in place. There may be other small imperfections. Needs a cleaning.
Despite the issues - this is an interesting and attractive violin - that is repairable. The violin comes in an old wood coffin case of no value.
Also included is a good bow stamped marked \'Tourte\'. The bow weighs ~58g as pictured (nohair). The stick is round with good camber.Appears to be copper wrapped. Frog and adjustermove freely. Stamped \'Germany\'. Additional pics on request. VOKOUN, JOSEF
