Hello, thank you for having a look at my sales. After an extended summer break due to some knee surgery Joanie is back in action with an incredible estate sale! Although I was a little down and out over the summer I still managed to acquire some incredible and important treasures for my first sale of the fall season.

I am very excited to be offering what I believe may be my finest and most important sale to date. This sale offers a wide variety of great examples from across many categories of collecting. The items include some exceptionally rare and important examples including some imperial wares, and items dating from the Song dynasty to the earlier Republic period. This sale features items from three important estate collections including the late Chinese ceramics expert Michael Vermeer’s collection, Mr. H.H Pao of Toronto who owned a high-end shop in the famous four seasons hotel in Toronto for many years and whom was considered one of North America’s top experts and scholars in many categories of antique Chinese art. Also some of the smaller scholarly items including the jade examples are from the estate of A Abraham. Mr. Abraham owned the “Imperial Jade Shop” situated in the famous King Edward hotel until the year 1976 (40 years ago) when the hotel was renovated and the shop never re-opened. These items have been in storage since the shop closed down and have not seen the light of day until now! Abraham was a highly respected jade dealer, appraiser, and collector in the 1950-70’s period. Abraham frequently travelled to China, Hong Kong, New York, and London on buying trips during the time. I do not know a great deal about many of the objects myself. Being out of this known expert’s estate I believe there is a good chance there are some important and rarely found examples being offered.

Up for sale is an incredible large and impressive 18th to 19th century Chinese polychrome painted Buddha head on stand. This Buddha head is fresh from an estate collection where it has been for several decades. The estate thought the Buddha head was Song to Ming dynasty but I am told it is likely a Qing 18th to 19th century example. I am told the Buddha head likely originated in Shanxi province. The head is a massive size and I am told likely from a temple, the full figure originally would have stood upwards of ten feet tall. The Buddha is superbly carved with fine life-like details. The Buddha has remnants of many layers of lacquer and polychrome paint from several decades. You can also see remnants of an early gold gilding. The head shows its age with paint loss as you can see. The head otherwise in substantially good condition and I personally like the old look of the carving. The head is an incredible example to display, the head itself measuring 17 inches tall, by 10 inches wide. The Buddha head on stand measures 24 inches tall. It you like amazing visually appealing examples that few would have in their collection this would be an incredible example to acquire. I highly doubt you will see another one being offered like this without reserve any time soon!
