Up for offer is a very rare early 1900\'s gold tone filigree and jeweled vanity bag with a powder compact located on the front, a multi-colored silk back, and matching jeweled carrying chain and tassel. The filigree compact and bag lid are set with yellow stones and pearls. I have included a picture of an almost identical vanity purse found on page 59 ofRoselyn Gerson\'s "Vintage Vanity Bags & Purses."
The vanity bag itself measures about 3 inches by 3 inches by 3/4 inch. The carrying chain measures a little more than 8 inches doubled, and the tassel is about 4 inches. The round powder compact lid on the front is about 2 and 1/4 inches in diameter.
The front powder lid opens to reveal a still clear framed mirror, a gold-washed powder cavity (still a little powder present), and the original puff. The purse itself opens to an interior lined with a peach colored satin. There is a shirred pocket on one side and a pocket with a snap on the other. The back of the purse has a multi-colored silk fabric that shows considerable wear. The purse is stamped "Trinity Plate" on one side. Trinity Plate is not (as some will tell you) a maker\'s mark; rather, it refers to the plating process that was used on the metal.
Condition is as pictured, so please view and enlarge all of the many pictures I have provided. As mentioned, the silk back shows considerable wear. The inside of the purse also shows wear, fraying, and tears. The front of the vanity bag, the chain, and the tassel, however, are still beautiful after 100 years.
