Up for sale this week is this nice and early pocket watch key, dating to the mid 17th century c. 1640. The key is of crank shape, with an oval head decorated with a royal star / sunburst also known as an \"Au soleil\" during the period of King Louis XIV. This key was excavated in England, this would date to the period of the English Civil War, when pocket watches would have been only affordable to royalty and given as diplomatic gifts. The key would have been used to wind an early Verge Fuseeescapement, that if it had survived today, would be worth an astronomical amount - so instead we have to make do with this perfect little survivor, with a sunburst being about as astronomical as we can get! collectors will love this little treasure, very rare and in working condition.
