This is a wonderful example of an early Bronze Age gold sun disc, dating to c. 2500 - 1200 BC. This example made from a thin sheet of gold, hand beaten paper thin with applied repousse decoration. The central design appears to represent a magical seven pointed star, with curious emanating spirals. This could be a representation of a comet, with a tail, or a representation of the sun. The variety of points depicted on these sun discs can vary, a similar gold sun disc with an eight pointed star can be foundhere, with further examples in museumshereandhere.
Academics still debate the original use or intention of these enigmatic objects, most agree these were worn as some form of adornment (due to perforations found on some examples). Most are found withinBeaker Culturebarrows, likely associated with some form of ritual magic during theSolstice.
This is a rare and enigmatic object, rarely offered on the open market. This is a perfect opportunity for any serious collectors to obtain a true museum grade sundisc, from an old European collection.
