Smokey Yunick Hurst Floor Shift Special Press Kit 1964 Indianapolis 500 , Signed
Price: US $106.49
Up for sale is something very unique. A press kit from THE most controversial car to ever come to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 1964 Hurst Floor Shift Special built by the great Smokey Yunick. Smokey built this car himself and true to form created another controversial \"car.\" It was driven by Bobby Johns, the car did not qualify. Enclosed are 10 pages of information on Hurst press release letterhead, and 1 photo attached. The other photo I found years ago and put in here. I got this press kit from Jack Duffy who was Hurst director of public relations. You will see his name on the top of the pages. This was on Jack\'s desk when we cleaned it out to move it. When I met Smokey for the first time on 01-18-1991 at a trade show, I approached him with this and this is what happened: \"Where in the hell did you get this? I told him, he looked it over for about 5 minutes, and said, \"I don\'t even have one of these? Pointing to the person sitting in the car in the other photo, he said\"That\'s Smokey Jr..\" I think he wanted me to give it too him. He signed it for me. That is the only drawback to this item is that it is personalized. So according to the horse himself, who as we all knew, he was the king of packrats, he threw nothing away. There may be others, but I have never seen one. Overall in very good/excellent condition, complete as found, has a few wrinkles, and an offset on the gold from something sitting on top of it for probably 25 years. I will also throw in a cover, sadly nothing inside of a 1968 Hurst/Agajanian press kit from 1968. Just a couple of quick notes about this car, it has a \"square\" steering wheel, the shifter and the clutch all work off the throw of one lever and the bumper is traced from Smokey Jr\'s hands. In my 40 plus trips to the museum at Indy, I have only seen this car once, in August, they keep it in the basement, it is an awesome sight to behold. Any questions, just ask, will answer. Thanks for looking.
