SMALL BRONZE CROWNED FIGURE OF A BODHISATTVA

An outstanding small bronze figure of a crowned bodhisattva, legs crossed together in Dhayasana, the right hand in Bhumispara Mudra, the left hand in Karana Mudra, the face with serene expression, a third-eye radiating from the forehead, large ornate earrings hanging from stretched ears with elaborate jewelry and sashes flowing downwards toward finely engraved robes neatly folded above an integral double lotus base. Traces of old enamels can still be found on the face. The metal, a dark brown bronze with elements of patination throughout. Measures 7 inches (18 cm) in height.Bhumispara Mudra is translated as \"Touching the Earth\". Bhumispara Mudra is said to be Buddha\'s hand gesture when he achieved enlightenment. It represents unshaken strength and the truth of his commitment to liberation, which helped overcome the darkness right before he entered the light. Karana Mudra expresses a very powerful energy with which negative energy is expelled. This hand gesture is also warding off the evil. You can sense a very determined, focus energy just by looking at this hand gesture. This is a very rare, old and unusual bronze figure. The proportions of the hands hints towards Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) influence. The casting is of a first-class quality. The baseplate is a Tibetan style, with Chinese and Mongolian influence found in stylistic elements. Someone has engraved the words \"China\" on the base, which was probably placed for ease of import and export within the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is not original to the piece. In my opinion, this piece likely dates between the 17th and 19th century.Provenance:
