Description
Up for offer is a rare sterling silver and guilloche enamel double-sided compact made by F&B (Foster & Bailey) in 1922. The front of the compact has a green and pink floral design against a bluish/white guilloche background, and the back of the compact is a bluish/white guilloche with a floral design around the rim.
This is a large compact, measuring 2 and 1/2 inches in diameter and 3/4 inch high. The top of the compact opens to a case-framed mirror (mostly clear) and the original pan of powder and puff. The bottom of the compact opens to a case-framed mirror (mostly clear) and the original pan of rouge and puff. The compact appears to be very lightly used.
The compact is marked F&B Sterling and Pat. 4-4-22 on the interior of the rouge side. Both the sides and the interior are gold-washed. Overall condition is excellent, with no damage to the enamel. The hinges do seem a little weak to me, but that could be the way they were made. They appear to be stable.
