This sale is for 30 inches of professional grade cleat wood for violins. 8mm x 8mm If you see the pictures, you use a chisel to split off each cleat. They end up quartersawn from the way I cut the blanks. This allows you to have all equal sized cleats that will look better and be easier to make. The corners can be beveled in the blanks before splitting (see last pic).

I use fine grained old spruce for these.

Why buy cleats when you could make them out of scrap? Several reasons. First, the wood I select is cut precisely and correctly for proper cleat performance over the long term. Second, when looking at a repaired instrument, it is nice to see repairs that look professionally done. My cleats are consistent in shape/size so when you are done you have a better look than approximated sized cleats. This is especially true for valuable instrument. Lastly, they will save you a tremendous amount of time.

This sale will have at least 30 inches in length of blanks. You can split about 15 to 20 cleats per inch, so you could have 400 cleats from this group. The final cleats are 8mm x 8mm
