This is an authentic replacement for a missing or damaged collar strap on an original Irvin flying jacket. These are the same straps I use on the reproduction Irvin jackets that I make ([link removed by ]). I make the black elastic collar strap to the original wartime specifications - it is 1 inch wide, 16 inches long in total, fitted with a runner and two hooks. The Irvin jacket was designed (by Leslie Leroy Irvin) when open cockpits were still the norm, so the elastic strap was intended to be pulled over the pilots head to keep the collar of the jacket up when flying! I’m not sure if it was ever used for this purpose, but the elastic collar strap remained a feature of original Irvin jackets until the later stages of WW2. PayPal only please.
