The Aviatrix Collection

A new collection of dolls designed to replicate and honor the many womenwho flew military aircraft during WWII.A series of beautiful collectible limited edition dolls produced by Purple Moon Delights.The Collection begins with Sarah, Maggie and Gloria of the WWII era. Future Editions in the Aviatrix Collection will represent lady pilots throughout the years.

Going almost unrecognized for their military efforts these women flew fighters and bombers, they ferried the war planes to strategic places based in the United States and England. As fighting planes were fairly new and available trained male pilots were in demand in the war zones these womeninstructed male pilots, tested planes previously downed in combat, pulled banners for military target practice (at times getting hit by pilots who missed their targets), and much more.

In the beginning, these women had no official uniforms or group designation. They wore the men\'s military issue clothing which of course were mostly too large and for dressy occasions they bought their own white blouses and tan slacks. The clothing designs for these \"Flying Ladies\" were taken from researchincluding official Air Force uniforms provided by a WWII historianand first hand information from a WWII recipiant of the Distinguished Flying Cross. I took the cotton jerseyone-piece underwear, which I call Evelynwear, frommy motherwho worked in the shipyards during WWII and told stories about how coldit was working outsidewith all that metal around her. She took some of my Dad\'s cotton T-shirts and made herself some one-piece underwear. I assumed that these FlyingLadieswould also want something warm on underneath so I gave them all a pair of Evelynwear!

These women later became members of the ATC, WAF, and WASP. \"Yankee Doodle Gals, Women Pilots of WWII\" by Amy Nathan and other bookstell some of the fascinating, little known stories of these aviation pioneers.

These ladies are 22\" tall with hair and make-up representing the women during the WWII era in the 1940\'s.Their faceswill remind you of some of the most famous Pin-up women during that time. They have delicate porcelain features that include head and breast plate, hands and arms above the elbow, feet and legs above the knees and cloth sculpted bodies. Limited to an edition of 1100, this initial production includes only 100 of each doll. Dolls are numbered and come boxed with a certificate.
