what does the green USB female to PS/2 male adapter do?

A green USB female to PS/2 male adapter connects a USB mouse to a computer's older round PS/2 port. What It Does

• Connects Peripherals: Allows you to plug a USB mouse into a legacy motherboard or older desktop that only features round PS/2 ports.
• Color Coding: The green color follows the PC 97 standard, which designates green for mouse ports and purple for keyboard ports.
• Saves USB Ports: Helps free up limited USB slots on older computers.

Important Limitations

• Mouse Only (Usually): Because it is color-coded green, it is specifically wired for mice. Opinions are mixed on as to whether a green adapter works interchangeably with a keyboard, though most users agree that these passive adapters lack internal conversion chips. They only work if the connected device natively supports dual USB and PS/2 signaling.
• No Hot-Swapping: PS/2 ports do not support hot-swapping. You must turn off your computer before plugging or unplugging the adapter.
