This is anexcellent opportunity for an SGI collector, IRIX enthusiast, vintage workstation owner, software archivist, developer, retro-computing enthusiast, or collector of Silicon Graphics historyto acquire a large and unusually diverse group of original SGI media in one lot.

Rather than piecing together individual discs over years, this collection brings togetherIRIX operating-system media, development tools, applications, documentation, O2-specific software, patches, overlays, networking software and SGI Freeware.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

IRIX 6.5 — June 1998

A significant portion of the original IRIX 6.5 distribution media, including:

IRIX 6.5 Installation Tools — June 1998
IRIX 6.5 Foundation 1
IRIX 6.5 Foundation 2
IRIX 6.5 Applications — June 1998
IRIX 6.5 Development Foundation
IRIX 6.5 Development Libraries
IRIX 6.5 Base Documentation

There are multiple original discs from several of these releases, making this a particularly interesting collection for anyone interested in reconstructing or preserving an authentic late-1990s SGI/IRIX software environment.

DEVELOPMENT SOFTWARE

One of the standout pieces in the collection is:

MIPSpro C Compiler 7.3
SGI Part No. 812-0707-003

This is an original SGI MIPSpro development-toolchain disc for the IRIX era.

MIPSpro was SGI's professional compiler and development environment and is an especially appropriate piece of software for collectors interested in the technology that powered the legendary MIPS-based SGI workstation and server platforms.

Also included are:

IRIX Development Foundation 1.2 for IRIX 6.4
IRIX Development Foundation 1.2 for IRIX 6.5
IRIX 6.5 Development Foundation
IRIX 6.5 Development Libraries

SGI O2 SOFTWARE

The collection also includes O2-specific material:

IRIX 6.3 for O2
O2 IRIX 6.3 Patches — August 1997

For collectors restoring an SGI O2 workstation, these O2-era discs are particularly interesting.

LATER IRIX MEDIA

Also included:

IRIX 6.5.11 Installation Tools and Overlays — February 2001
IRIX 6.5 Applications — November 1999

This gives the collection representation from multiple stages of the IRIX 6.5 era rather than being limited to a single release.

SGI HOT MIX

Also included is:

Hot Mix 18
SGI Part No. 814-0544-007

A genuine SGI-era software/media release and an interesting addition for collectors of SGI's software distribution history.

WHY THIS COLLECTION IS SPECIAL

This isn't simply a box of miscellaneous computer CDs.

It represents theSGI / Silicon Graphics IRIX software ecosystem— the operating system, development environment, applications, networking components, documentation, O2 software, patches and supplementary software that accompanied some of the most iconic professional workstations and servers of the 1990s and early 2000s.

SGI systems were used extensively in:

Computer graphics
Film and visual effects
3D animation
Scientific computing
Professional workstation development

IRIX and MIPS were an important part of that era of computing history.

For someone restoring or preserving an SGI workstation today, findingmultiple pieces of the original software ecosystem togethercan be considerably more useful and interesting than finding a single isolated installation CD.
