Since I have reduced the number of files that I am trying to keep online, I no longer need this NAS (since I have three others). This one is too nice to just leave unused(however, I did use it until yesterday to check it out. It has never been "idle"). I am including a 3 TB drive so the NAS will run immediately when it is received. I am sure a buyer will add hard drives(I found that this NAS, unlike some, is not real fussy about drives).
It's the complete package: four drive trays, the key, a restart USB stick(critical to have!), power cable, network cable, and a DVD will all the documentation(more than just the manual). I will also include a sheet with startup instructions.
The enclosed USB stick is included which is used to boot the system and restore the operating system should your main drive dies or gets corrupted. I include this because the system has to be operational to make this usb stick, so it's kind of a chicken and egg thing. If you want to replace the 3TB drive with something larger, you will need the usb stick to initialize the new drive. Unlike some other NAS, Buffalo provides a detail manual.
Just take it out of the box, connect the network cable to your network, power it up and it will just start up and you willl see the 3TB drive on your computer systems(it's name is share1). The included NAS Navigator lets you see and manage the NAS from your PC (or you can just punch in it's IP address and see it's web pages. After it starts up, it tells you it's IP address on the front display.Has always worked very well for me and I relied on to store our files, videos, pictures and music. This is a high end unit with many features (although I only used a few of the features), I would encourage anyohe to read the documentation although I found it very easy to use for common uses.
