This listing is for the full-color oversize quality softcover companion book that was published in conjunction with the Brauer Museum of Art\'s 2015 ground-breaking exhibition, The Sun Shines for Us All: The Friendship Dolls from Japan. The 166-page book contains highly-readable essays by renown scholars including Terry Kita, Michiko Takaoka, Roger Daniels, Clifford Putney, and Charmaine Steinberg that detail the history of the 1926-1927 goodwill doll exchanges between children in Japan and America, the event\'s historical background, and the role Japonism in Art played at the time. The book also details the Gulick family\'s involvement with Japan and the doll exchanges beginning with Sidney L. Gulick and continuing with Denny and Frances Gulick into the present day. Many of the 145 photographs are published for the first time from the private Gulick family archive. In addition, the book details how the \"Friendship Dolls\" (called tôrei ningyô in Japanese) were made including conservation records of the Yoshitoku Doll Company in Tokyo and rare photographs courtesy of the family of Hirata Gôyô, the former Living National Treasure doll maker of Japan.
