Vintage 1960s MOofferIC model, plaque and letter from its original owner.
Sylvania's MOofferIC, short for "Mobile Digital Computer", was a transistorized computer intended to store, sort and route information as one part of the United States Army's Fieldata concept. Fieldata aimed to automate the distribution of battlefield data in any form, ensuring the delivery of reports to the proper recipients regardless of the physical form they were sent or received. MOofferIC was mounted in the trailer of a semi-trailer truck, while a second supplied power, allowing it to be moved about the battlefield.
The model has some wear/ damage as pictured. The front axle is detached on one side. The trailer has holes on the front that can slide down over the legs on the front axle but it sits too low so I just stand the trailer directly on the legs. I am not sure if it is missing something there or if that was just a design flaw. Included is a letter from the owner with a bit of personal experience with the system. A very cool piece of military history as well as computer history.
