This 56K PCI modem is a fullfeatured controller-basedfax/modem. One benefit of a controller-basedmodem is that it has its own processor, which imposeslittle or no load on a computer’s CPU.

Inaddition to the controller, the modem has an onboard DSP (digital signalprocessor) to handle all the computation-intensive datatransmission functions. Compared with lower priced soft modems that came with many computers, controller basedfax/modems offer an outstanding performance benefit. Great for dial-up internet access or use it as a fax machine.

Touse your modem, you will need the following additionalhardware:

• Acomputer running Windows® 95, 98, NT 4.0, 2000, orLinux, a minimum of 16 MB RAM (32 MB is recommended),and a hard drive with at least 5 MB available.

• Forsoftware supplied on a CD-ROM disc, a CD drive.

• Atelephone jack to plug the modem into, so the modemcan dial out and receive calls.

• Asound card if you want to use the modem as a telephoneanswering device (voice mail option) plus an earphoneor speakers (for listening to incoming messages)and a microphone (if you want to record your ownoutgoing message).
